Hi! My name is Collin Barnes, and if you have a minute, I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up on a small farm in central Washington where we raised apples, peaches, walnuts, and sheep. It seemed like there was always something to do, and I learned responsibility and perseverance very early. I spent my middle and high school years in a low-income school where teachers did not have adequate resources, but they had a lot of heart. These teachers really showed me the impact that one person can have on hundreds of individuals, and they inspired me to be a life-changing teacher.
During college, I student taught at a high school in Lockport, IL, which had 4,000 students grades 10-12, then immediately got my first teaching job in Glenwood, WA, which had 72 students grades PreK-12. Needless to say, it was a bit of a culture shock, and my first year was anything but easy. However, I learned some valuable lessons that I believe make me a well-rounded teacher that can quickly respond to changes in any situation. Although it isn’t always easy, teaching is my passion, and I hope to make it a long and fruitful career where I can positively impact lives, one student at a time.
